Return to Church . . . Confession At   some   point   in   your   journey back   to   the   Church,   confession becomes     a     richly     important part,   as   is   the   case   for   those still    in   the   Church.   Not   for   any other     reason     than     that     Christ is   there   for   us,   waiting   with   his mercy   to   free   us   and   help   us.   It is also a ‘yes’ for Christ because he  wants to be able to reach us, and   he   can’t   unless   we   turn   our hearts to him. It doesn’t matter if   it’s   been   even   20   years   or   more   since   your   last   confession.      It   is   a   key   if   you   like,   a   key   that   will open   the   door   towards   freedom.   Jesus   Christ   himself   absolves   us   through   the   priest   because   he wants   us   to   be   free   from   what   impedes   us.      The   sacrament   of   confession   is   a   gift   that   restores grace,   it   is   there   to   help   us   grow   stronger,   happier   and   freer   in   ourselves   and   our   faith.   It   is   there to   bring   us   closer   into   relationship   with   God   and   each   other.   Through   confession   we   are   receiving the   forgiveness   and   freedom   we   have   gained   through   Christ   dying   for   us,   and   are   freed   from   what narrows   us   in   our   lives.      Bit   by   bit   through   opening   ourselves   up   to   our   merciful   God   and   asking him to enter our difficulties, we can come to discover a depth to ourselves, how we were truly made to be, which is only good.   For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Jeremiah 29:11
